NOPP Photo of the Month – Baleen Whale in Greenland

The baleen whale pictured was observed near West Greenland in 2008. This FY07 NOPP project was led by Dr. Kristen Laidre of the University of Washington to examine and contrast the foraging strategies of two baleen whale species (bowhead and humpback)  in West Greenland. Using GPS tags, the team has collected detailed data on over 13,000 U-shaped feeding dives.
