During the month of October three awards were announced under the Marine Biodiversity Observation Network funding opportunity; more information on this announcement can be found here.
The NOPP Office staff attended the University-National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS) annual meeting in October. The NOPP office also attended several presentations, including one given by Dr. Libby Jewett (NOAA) on ocean acidification and how it can be integrated into the US Climate Action Plan. In addition, The Federal Maritime Commission hosted a presentation on the environmental impacts of ship recycling and announced that they are accepting nominations for their Chairman’s Earth Day Award which recognizes members of the shipping community who are using environmentally sustainable shipping practices.
Additionally, at the International Symposium on Submarine Canyons in Edinburgh, UK and at a marine spatial planning workshop hosted by Mid-Atlantic Regional Council on the Oceans an NOPP project, the Atlantic Canyons Study was recognized as a comprehensive and well-designed study.
