This month, the NOPP office provided support to the Interagency Working Group on Facilities and Infrastructure (IWG-FI) as they focused on maximizing efficiency of the oceanographic fleet. The NOPP office also supported the Interagency Working Group on Ocean Partnerships (IWG-OP) and the Task Force on Ocean Exploration and Underwater Research Technology and Infrastructure (TFORT) and their work to identify partnership opportunities and technology priorities.
In May the NOPP office hosted a kick-off workshop for ONR- and NOAA-funded NOPP projects on Arctic forecasting. The workshop brought together researchers working on models that incorporate the atmosphere, waves, sea ice, and other variables to create regional arctic and global forecast prediction systems. Workshop discussions highlighted current research efforts that could be leveraged to improve the accuracy of forecasting models.
The NOPP also attended several ocean policy events to stay current in our ocean community.
- Conference: Ocean Planning, Offshore Infrastructure and the Blue Economy hosted by Foreign Policy Institute and The Maritime Alliance
- Briefing: Reduction of Vessel Noise in Shipping Lanes hosted by the Federal Maritime Commission
- Briefing: Plastic Waste in our Oceans hosted by the Ocean Conservancy
